Managed by the Colorado River Municipal Water District, this manmade reservoir is home to thriving populations of white crappie, white bass, channel catfish, and largemouth bass.

Located approximately 95 miles northeast of the Odessa city center, J.B. Thomas Reservoir can be reached in approximately one hour and a half via routes I-20 and TX-350. The best fishing areas are those located in the lower reservoir, where you can also find public boat ramps and piers. Other facilities that can be found in the area include campgrounds and well-maintained picnic areas.



2. Lake Colorado City State Park

Open daily from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, Lake Colorado City State Park is a sprawling public recreation area that covers approximately 500 acres and draws visitors from all over western Texas throughout the year. Managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, this state park provides access to Lake Colorado City, a reservoir fed by one of the tributaries of the Colorado River.

Lake Colorado City State Park is located 100 miles northeast of downtown Odessa and can also be reached in about one hour and a half via route I-20. This recreation area boasts a public boat ramp, fishing piers, plenty of nature trails, campgrounds, and cozy cabins. Some of the species anglers can find here include sunfish, largemouth bass, and channel catfish.



3. Comanche Trail Park

Providing public access to Comanche Trail Lake and located a little over 60 miles northeast of Odessa, Comanche Trail Park is another great destination for a fishing escape with your friends and family. This park covers approximately 400 acres and features hiking and biking trails, picnic pavilions, and designated fishing areas. Anglers fish primarily for largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, yellow bullhead, and white crappie.
